Knowing what you want in a website design may be more difficult than you think. But then again, maybe you are over thinking the process. Follow these six simple steps to establish a well designed website.
Step 1: Establish Your Goals
Establishing a list of goals is the key ingredient to a successful website. When you think of what you would like to achieve with your website, what are the first things that come to mind? Do you want to attract visitors? Do you want to sell products? Write out a list of goals and set specific timelines for achieving them.
Step 2: Identify Your Target Audience
Identifying your target audience will give you the ability to determine how funky you need to get with your design. Is your audience “simple” in the fact they are not flare oriented. (Office Space reference…) If you are a lawyer or financial consultant, you may not want to make a fashion statement with your website.
Step 3: Represent Your Brand
A key step to representing your brand image would be to follow the logo created for your company. Utilize the style and colors from your logo design and build your website around it. After all, this is the staple of your brand.
Step 4: Implement Your Goals and Follow Them
Once you have established your goals and expanded on them from steps one through three, implement and follow them. At every step, at every piece you add to the website, think about one thing; “How will my goals be achieved by implementing this design or functional piece?”
Step 5: Implement Tracking Utilities
Measuring your website success will be different for each company dependent upon their goals. Implementing Google Analytics will allow you to track more than necessary to make sure you are on track or in reach of exceeding your goals.
Step 6: Update Often
Nothing can be worse than having a website that sits on the shelf. Once you take the time and effort to create a website to reflect your company and goals, you need to make sure it stays up to date with your latest company and industry news. Utilize a blog, add new images, update staff bios, and potentially host events to give back to the community or your clients.
